iNdlunkulu Foundation is proud to reflect on the success of the iCathama Poetry Experience, held on Saturday, 1 August 2026, at Santosa Coffee in Durban. The event marked the official live celebration of iCathama, the first poetic work by South African poet Mvuzo Sibiya, and brought together poetry enthusiasts, artists and members of the community for an afternoon dedicated to literature, culture and meaningful conversation.
The gathering offered more than poetry performances. It created a welcoming space where audiences could engage with a work that explores family, identity and the enduring influence of a father's wisdom. Through iCathama, Mvuzo Sibiya delivered a moving performance that traced the journey of a son whose life continues to be illuminated by the guidance and values instilled by his father. The poem's themes of resilience, heritage and purpose resonated deeply with those in attendance, prompting reflection long after the final words had been spoken.
Throughout the afternoon, guests experienced an atmosphere that celebrated the richness of spoken word and reaffirmed poetry's ability to preserve memory, inspire dialogue and strengthen community. Three sets? Three outfits? Nine poems? Oh Mvuzo, we are so proud of you. Your dedication to your craft is visible. You truly are a gift, in every sense of the word.
